Air Force Jr. ROTC Program - Officer Instructor

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required
  2. Must be a retired non-commission officer
  3. Ability to obtain teacher certification from the Oklahoma Department of Education
  4. Minimum of 20 years active duty in the Air Force
  5. Background in leadership, supply, administration, drill and ceremony, teaching and youth groups preferred.
  6. Must meet Department of Defense standards, including fitness requirements
  7. Must exemplify the values of the Air Force and require the highest standard of conduct for themselves and their students

REPORTS TO:     Senior Aerospace Science Instructor & EHS Principal

 

SUPERVISES:   N/A

                   

JOB OVERVIEW:        Assists the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor as he or she (1) manages and administers the overall operation of the Air Force Jr. ROTC program, including the administrative, logistical and financial management of the unit; (2) plans, organizes and instructs the aerospace science and leadership education courses; (3) serves as the liaison to the school, local and military community; and (4) provides career and performance counseling for AFJROTC cadets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists with promotion and growth of the EHS AFJROTC program, including its many benefits to students regarding aerospace science and leadership/management education.
  • Assists with duties to ensure the EHS program is meeting all standards established by the Air Force for its AFJROTC programs.
  • Teaches and instructs in subject matter areas commonly found in a comprehensive program, including the development and implementation of lesson plans that incorporate a variety of methodologies for teaching.
  • Assists with duties expected of classroom teachers, including identifying required learning objectives, assessing students’ knowledge of the learning objectives and adjusting instruction accordingly, when needed.
  • Counsels, confers with, and communicates with parents, school and district personnel regarding student progress and program needs.
  • Maintains an effective learning environment, with a strong focus on classroom management and student engagement.
  • Assists with coordination and collaboration with other organizations/events that allow AFJROTC cadets to be visible in the community and the school campus.
  • Assists with the planning and support of activities like drill competitions, marksmanship events, military balls, academic competitions, formal ceremonies and community services activities.
  • Performs a variety of non-instructional duties, including student supervision around the campus, as needed.
  • Assists with the completion of all reports and paperwork required by the AFJROTC program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS AS IDENTIFIED BY AFJROTC

  • Must be punctual, without the need for frequent work absences due to existing medical conditions;
  • Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time performing both classroom teaching and conducting after-school activities.
  • Must be able to walk extended distances, such as leading field trips and fitness sessions, demonstrating drill sequences and marching in parades.
  • Must be able to perform normal physical movements such as bending, reaching, moderate lifting and pushing/pulling without difficulty;
  • Must be able to follow detailed instructions, perform tasks that require attention to detail and follow all prescribed institution policies.
  • Must be able to calmly and positively handle dynamic and hectic situations, loud sounds and stress.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional military appearance in uniform by maintaining weight and body fat within the established standards.

         

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10.5 Month Contract -- Certified – Exempt

 

EVALUATION:     In accordance with Board Policy and appropriate procedural regulations.  The Superintendent or designee will be responsible for completing the evaluation.

 

SALARY RANGE:  TBD, based on the teaching and military experience of the successful candidate. Will meet or exceed MIP (Minimum Instructor Pay).

 

BENEFITS:            This position includes fully funded teacher retirement and health insurance for the employee that may be waived for additional salary, if preferred.
