QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES OF THE TRANSPORTATION DIRECTOR

 

QUALIFICATIONS:           

  1. Valid State Certification in teaching or administration preferred
  2. Master’s Degree preferred
  3. Experience in classroom teaching, counseling, supervision or administration in a recognized K-12 school is preferred

 

REPORTS TO:    Chief Financial Officer

 

SUPERVISES:    Bus Drivers, Bus Monitors, Mechanics, and Trans finder Technician

 

JOB GOAL:    To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the district’s schools.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensures that all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation are followed.
  2. Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a program of preventative safety.
  3. Recruits, trains, and supervises all transportation personnel, and makes recommendations on their employment status.
  4. Advises superintendent, director of property services and CFO on road hazards for decisions on school closing during inclement weather.
  5. Cooperates with school principals and others responsible for planning school trips.
  6. Develops and administers a transportation program to meet all of the requirements of the daily instructional program and extra-curricular activities.
  7. Prepares bus routes and schedules for all schools in the district.
  8. Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings.
  9. Assists with the transportation budget, maintain blanket purchase orders for vehicle maintenance and repair.
  10. Authorizes purchases in accordance with budgetary limitations and district rules.
  11. Approves and forwards transportation service invoices to the accounting department.
  12. Maintains all district-owned equipment and develops plans for preventative maintenance.
  13. Maintains and submits records and reports as required by the state.
  14. Takes an active role in solving discipline problems occurring on school busses.
  15. Acts as a liaison with parents for complaints and special requests.
  16. Develops recommendations for future equipment, personnel, and transportation needs.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    Twelve month (248 day) contract.

 

EVALUATION:    Performance of this job evaluated annually by the CFO in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.

 

SALARY RANGE:    $54,000 - $80,000 per year

 

BENEFITS:    Full-time administrator benefits including annual vacation, paid single health insurance premiums and paid Oklahoma Teachers’ Retirement System contributions.
