QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
2. Current license with the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure

 

REPORTS TO: Certified Occupational Therapist and Director of Special Services

 

SUPERVISES: N/A

 

JOB GOAL: Under direction of the Certified Occupational Therapist, will provide educationally related occupational therapy services to students according to their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides direct occupational therapy services at multiple work sites to students according to IEP goals for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established practices and procedures.
2. Adapts school and classroom environment, tools, and materials for the purpose of improving student functioning and facilitates student access to curricular and instructional activities.
3. Provides training, consultation, and instruction to teachers on the use of adaptive devices and equipment for the purpose of ensuring such devices are used safely and optimal benefits are achieved.
4. Assists Occupational Therapist with assessing student's fine motor and development skills for the purpose of determining their deficits and developing recommendations.
5. Consults with Occupational Therapist for the purpose of providing requested information, reviewing/ revising students' therapy goals/objectives, developing plans for services, and/or making recommendations to implement goals.
6. Implements therapeutic activities and instructs students, teachers, parents, and other involved persons for the purpose of providing appropriate care to students and/or supporting the student's IEP plan for use in the classroom.
7. Maintains treatment equipment and supplies in clean and proper working condition for the purpose of implementing motor/therapy goals. Troubleshoots problems with assistive devices and/or provides alternative strategies.
8. Attends meetings, conferences, and workshops for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information, including best practices for school OT delivery.
9. Maintains files and/or records in cooperation with the Occupational Therapist for the purpose of documenting activities and/or ensuring an up-to-date trail for compliance with various state, federal, and administrative regulations.
10. Presents information such as student performance data, clinical feedback, etc. for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback, and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Placement on a nine-month contract (184 days) to be aligned with the current year’s school calendar.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the the job's functions within the school/classroom setting require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 55% walking, and 15% standing. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel

SALARY RANGE: Salary determined by the current Support Personnel Negotiated Contract
