This position will require you to be flexible and provide services to any of our school sites during the year.  You will be required to travel to different sites for weeks at a time.  

 

Hours:  Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Hourly rate:  $13.00 per hour

POSITION:                             Custodian

 

QUALIFICATIONS:              1.   Skill in using cleaning equipment and supplies.

  1. Knowledge of school standards for cleanliness; of assigned work areas; of cleaning methods and procedures; of a variety of cleaning aids or supplies.
  2. Ability to follow oral and written instructions; to maintain the physical stamina necessary to perform heavy manual labor; to read and write.

 

REPORTS TO:                       Building Principal, Head Custodian and Director of Property Services

 

SUPERVISES:                        No supervisory duties expected

 

JOB GOAL:                            Under close supervision, performs routine cleaning duties in school buildings, portable classrooms or offices.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Sweeps, mops, waxes and polishes linoleum, tile or hardwood floors; vacuums carpets, dusts furniture and venetian blinds.
  2. Washes windows, woodwork, metalwork, washrooms and fixtures. Empties waste baskets. 
  3. Operates and maintains buffers, sanders, vacuum cleaners and other janitorial equipment.
  4. Supplies washrooms with paper towels, soap and sanitary items; collects and disposes of trash and garbage; spray, disinfects and deodorizes assigned items and areas.
  5. Makes minor repairs on buildings and equipment; replaces light bulbs and faucet washers; sands floors and woodwork.
  6. Sweeps sidewalks and porches; shovels snow; keeps outside areas clean, orderly, mowed; trimmed and free of trash; checks and repairs or adjusts playground equipment.
  7. Moves equipment and furniture; sets up and removes folding tables and other equipment for lunch, recreation or special events.
  8. Maintains clean and orderly storage rooms.
  9. Know location and proper care and use of all firefighting equipment.
  1. Be responsible for the security of the classrooms and buildings, checking that all students are out of the buildings, lights are off, windows are locked, doors are locked, rooms and buildings are checked for fire hazards.
  2. Work on maintenance during summer months.
  3. Report any trouble or problems relating to the heating or cooling system immediately.
  4. Clean and store all tools, supplies and equipment after each use and in their proper place.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:     Full Year (240 days) basis.  Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION:                           Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:          This position is both indoor and outdoor, within the school building and its outer area.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  This position requires standing, walking, lifting, bending, crouching, lifting items.

SALARY RANGE:                      In accordance with EPS Negotiated Contract Scale.

 

BENEFITS:                                  In accordance with the EPS Negotiated Contract.
